A day off, at work...

Hey there! Its me Casey, one of the new girls here at Sunhee Moon. It's a beautiful sunny day here in the Mission and I am hanging out with Vanessa doing some computer work.

Despite the fact that its my day off, I'm still here at the store. Why? Well for one, I live down the street. I just moved to the Mission from Oakland and I am loving my new neighborhood. Every day I walk down Valencia or Guerrero and I'm greeted with new and beautiful sights. From the fragrant flowering trees outside colorfully painted homes, mothers walking with wobbly toddlers, bicycles whizzing along the bike lane, and the sharply dressed mariachi musicians standing outside the taquerias - its a real feast for the eyes.

I'm also here because the store is just a happy, positive environment to be part of. Sue and Sunhee are in the back cutting new patterns from fabric, and Vanessa is getting the clothes ready for the day, steaming away and making sure the store looks impeccable. The energy around here is always positive, clean, and in motion. Even when I'm not working in the store, I love getting swept up in the Sunhee Moon vibe. It makes me proud to walk by the storefronts, look at the mannequins, and see the awesome work the other girls are doing.

Basically -- I'm new and loving it.

But now my work is done and I'm off to enjoy my day . Catch some sunshine, ride my bike, hang out at Sunhee Moon -- should be a great San Francisco day.

Wedding Outfits!

Well Sunhee Moon ladies… its wedding season again. How many are on your calendar for this year? Whether they are relaxed back-yard evenings or formal chapel ceremonies, weddings are a wonderful way to catch up with friends and family, celebrate love, and maybe even find some for yourself! If you’re a bridesmaid, guest, mother of the bride, or even the bride herself, we’ve got a bright crop of spring clothes that are sure to be the perfect fit at whatever event you’re attending.

Nothing beats cotton jersey for a casual, comfortable affair. Pair our sophisticated, drape-necked Lana dress in plum with some simple heels and earrings for an effortless, beautiful look. Accent your waist with the matching plum belt or add one of our Tomo reversible tie belts for an unexpected pop of color.

Need something more formal? Our Mirabel dress is classic, elegant, and flattering on many body types. A boatneck-style neckline is enhanced with delicate pleating and slightly capped sleeves. The cotton silk fabric drapes close to the body in a smooth A-line. With its hint of sheen and swing, the Mirabel looks great with bold jewelry and accessories.

Are you a separates kind of gal? The new Kaia top is a versatile piece that works with both skirts and pants. Glam it up with our Maren skirt in red crepe or colorful, shiny sateen. Pair with our slim Caren pants for a more casual, classic look. Tie everything together with a Tomo belt and you’re out the door!

For more coverage, try our ¾-sleeved dresses – Caroline and Emily. The Caroline is a distinctively tailored shirtdress in sumptuous cotton silk. Try it on in black, teal, and this spring’s hottest color – orange! The Emily is cut in cool gabardine with a band collar, bracelet-sleeves, and demure pleats at the waist. Belt it for more definition in the waist, or let it hang naturally for a slightly bohemian feel.

Be sure to stop by the stores and have our Sunhee Moon girls help you find the perfect dress. And don’t forget to check out our great selection of shoes and jewelry to complete your look!

For better or for worse…

Casey

National Geographic

Ok.... I know what you're thinking. National Geographic and Sunhee Moon? A total disconnect... right? You should have seen Casey and my face when Susan (National Geographic photographer) first introduced herself carrying her equipment with her. I was like.... " Are you here for Izzy?" If you haven't visited our 16th store, Izzy is our greeter/watch dog/model oh.. and Sunhee's Maltese.

Turns out National Geographic Traveler magazine is doing a 12 page layout of San Francisco! What do you know... Sunhee Moon was on their list. Sunhee and the Moon girls couldn't be happier to represent San Francisco as one of the most established designers of this beautiful city.

In the layout, we will be featuring our latest pieces and one of our most fashionable client, Sarah from Sonoma, CA. Sarah was actually in a mad dash to a fabulous San Francisco soiree and ended up getting ready at our 16th store wearing the Mirabel dress in vibrant Lake. I remember Sunhee, Lauren, the ladies from National Geographic and I were so stunned when she came out of the dressing room. "Wow.....!'

watch what's happening right NOW!

Have you ever wondered what will become of cute little storefronts along tree-lined streets once the internet completes its total takeover of everyday life?

How will we get that cozy feeling of chatting with a shopkeeper? Or experience the curiosity of browsing the racks at our favorite boutique? Is it still 'retail therapy' if no one is listening on the other end of the line?

Considering that you can't beat the internet, you better join it. Our friends at imoondo.com have found a way to connect customers to our store, even when they can't visit our physical location.

So come visit us! No, not on a regular old website... but step into the store and view our webcam. Call us with questions and we will hop in front of the camera to assist you. Not sure what outfits to choose on the website, give us a call and we will show you, in real-time over the internet, how to pair everything with style. If you drive by and see something in our ever-changing window displays, call us when you get home and we can show you over the camera what the item was and tell you more about it.

ladies' night

The Moon girls rarely get a chance to work together and we usually communicate throughout the day by telephone, email and instant messaging to follow up on how the day has been and if any of our locations need assistance. They’ll be weeks’, even months we don’t get to see each other.

Well last night, four of us had a chance to hang out and I can’t remember a minute where we weren’t laughing and having a fabulous time. To be able to have a team so dynamic inside and outside of work creates a greater balance of respect and spirit for Sunhee Moon and all the girls involved. We are a team who teach, support, and consult one another to help the company grow including ourselves.
Sometimes life moves too fast we forget who and what kind of people are in our lives and regret time we should have spent with them.

To the girls who were with me last night, thanks for a great time. I had so much fun!!!!

daydreaming

I was on the 22 today on my way to work, listening to my ipod, minding my own business, when a man on his cell phone in front of me waved his hand in my face.
I took off my ear piece and looked at him confused as he said “day dreaming?”

“Yeah… I guess I am.”

How can you not when you’re in San Francisco! How the houses practically lean on each other, sky scraper buildings glaring, vibrant parks peeping in every neighborhood and people from all over the world walking aimlessly even when it rains.
The city’s visually deep. From coffee shops filled with computer savvy geniuses, beautiful men and women fashionably shopping in boutiques like Sunhee Moon and let’s not forget about the homeless that leave a mark when you pass them by ( if you know what I mean). It’s poetically mesmerizing.

rain rain go away, though i know you'll come another day...

san francisco street style is that of quite an eclectic one. yes, being by the bay we get to wear a few more layers, own a coat or two (or three) and have to whip out an umbrella every now and then... but being californians we can't disregard our sunglasses, flip flops and our laid back efforts into dressing.

just looking outside, with the wind blowing faithfully and the rain slightly misting over, i see women with their big wool coats, classic blue jeans and yes, flip flops. oh and the men? fleece pullovers, of course, to ward off the cold...paired with a good ol' california fave - board shorts. yup, it's an easy san francisco sunday today, slightly overcast with chances of unsuspecting, eye-catching style.

you zany san franciscans!

Every time the weather drops below 45 degrees... and the sky gets grayer than it's general foggy shade... the wind kicks up... and water starts falling from the sky...

we all freak out!!!

Everyone goes running around like it's the end of the world. I wouldn't be surprised if canned food and bottled water sales spike when the weather gets bad because people convince themselves that they will never be able to go outside again.

Then a day and a half later, the sun is shining. We put back on the coats the rest of the world puts away for winter because they are too flimsy. It's like it all was a bad dream. We brag to each other how lucky we are to live in the bay, chuckle at the people whose cars are under 10 feet of snow on the news, and mock our friends for being suckers who don't live in california.

What a beautiful day it is today!

twinkling lights

winter finally decided to descend on the city. scarves and sweaters are offically included each day.

we put up our white lights in all the windows to get into the holiday spirit. when paired with a blasting heater, the stores feel really cozy.

i came in today and one of the other girls had put ribbon around gift boxes and put them in the front window to complete the holiday display. the whole thing is just too cute!

we just did our first champagne weekend in december. in fact, i think that pink bubbly rings in the holiday season even better than white lights. i was at union on saturday with elise, and we had the best time handing out champagne flutes and spreading good cheer. if you missed it last weekend, come by all three stores every saturday and sunday in december for a glass of champers. delicious! festive! pretty! what could be better?

Warm Wishes!

style sense

The mission is such a zany place to get in touch with the fundamentals of SF street style. I was walking down Valencia with my sister the other day, and suddenly I realized that I had counted about five people wearing vests in a few short blocks.

Remember that this is the mission, so all of the vests were meticulously crafted to look vintage thrift store funk... old tweedy man meets shrunken bustier... natural fibers and color pallette... worn so tight you can see the strain on the buttons... But let's get real, no amount of sexy lines or cinched waists could keep away my automatic association with musty old men.

Musty old men? Second-skin tailoring? This juxtaposition was bugging me out.

But all these people were rockin it! I found myself wondering how all of these people independently saw these miniature retirement home uniforms on a sales rack and thought "Oh man! It's the missing piece of my summer wardrobe!!"

There's something about the attitude with which one wears clothes that is the fundamental base of style. I truly believe that it was the resulting irony of pairing a trimmed down version of your grandad's trusty outergarment with an American Apparrel leotard, handmade vintage beads, designer trouser jeans, sunglasses that are eating your face, and a tote bag with a screen print of cherries on it. That irony is the common denominator; that sense of irony is what all of my nameless neighbors had in mind when plucking their newly-made-to-look-old vest off the rack.

And once I figured out what they were going for, it was like I was hip to some kind of inside joke.

Love, Lauren O.

it's a sunhee day

Hi there from the new girl at sunhee moon! There's this awesome mix of a positive vibe, classic style and wonderfully energetic moon girls that makes working here so fun and gratifying! What I find amazingly unique about working here is being able to see how everyone's individual hard work directly impacts the company, and you're able to see actual results; the fruits of your labor. As a sunhee moon girl, every bit of work accomplished truly amounts to something of great worth; you're definitely not seen as just another fish in the water. And it makes working here that much more special.

It looks like it's going to be a great day here on Union Street. Spring has unrolled its rays of light and you know what that means... time to bust out the cute skirts, tissue-light Ts, bright colors and a nice pair of Dita shades! The new Cameron top is the perfect spring staple - it's a light weight button down with a half sleeve and cute detailing on the sleeve. It's perfect tucked into a Fallon skirt or even over a tank top with a pair of shorts for that ultimate warm-weather casual look! Looking for that perfect little black dress? The Pirouette T Dress is definitely it - made of amazingly soft easy jersey, this calf length dress has a great V-neck and can be dressed up or down from flip flops and a cute tote to a great necklace and sexy heels.

Spring comes bearing fresh new ideas, sunny days, and a calling for a new wardrobe! Dress accordingly, stop by sunhee moon!

Ring in the New Year

hey now from susie at sunhee moon! the holidays are over yet the celebration remains....there is just so much for which to be thankful. we had such fun helping shoppers dress for their holiday party and/or find just the right gifts for their loved ones. there were lots of guys coming in and buying jewelery, perfumes and scarves for their ladies. many of them would come in with no clue as to what to get. a few were adamant about purchasing clothing....not the safe items like jewelry etc. so i would ask them if their girls were my size, and if they were, i would sometimes try some outfits on to see if they might be a good gift. it was amusing....one time i even put some sweaters under a Cambra Top, so that a man could see how great of a fit it would be for his pregnant wife. he never returned it, so i guess it was perfect! one friendly guy bought his woman the Theo black cord jacket and that started a role of people buying the same one, but in all different colors. in the end i probably sold three or four of em! what a trip! it has been really great meeting a variety of people, and you know...it is getting quite cold out there, so it would really warm up our days if you would stop by and say hey! you can check out the sale going on, too. i always have the heaters on full blast as the rain falls and the wind blows. it's wintertime, and this gorgeous city sparkles in the day and night....what a great place we live in! we look forward to seeing you soon. - Susie

Happenings on Union Street

One cool thing about our new location is getting familiar with a whole new neighborhood. Union street is all about the holiday festivities. All the storefronts are lit up with pretty white lights, and even the parking meter poles are wrapped in festive colors. Here are some highlights coming up. You should check it out!

Guys' Night Out -- Thursday, December 14
Send your man over to Perry's on Union St. between Buchanan and Laguna at 6pm to have a beer and some appetizers. They will get the lowdown on the best stores to buy gifts on the street and a map to follow. It is should be a good time and a great opportunity for guys to get their shopping out of the way. Be sure your s u n h e e m o o n wish list is ready in time!

Ice Sculpting on Union Street -- Saturday, December 16
Real live ice-sculptors will be creating some impressive works out in the street. Certainly not something you see every day!

Gift Wrapping -- Saturdays and Sundays in December, noon to 5pm
The YMCA is offering free gift wrapping for any item you purchase from a store on Union Street that day. You can go home totally prepared for the holidays!

Santa and his Elves -- Saturday afternoons in December
Come see the real deal out on Union Street, and be sure your Christmas list gets directly to the source!

It's a great time to be becoming a part of a new neighborhood, and we hope you will join us in celebrating the season!

we live here

a couple of months ago the show from fineliving channel titled "we live here" came into my shop on 16th street. the producer tells me they are doing a segment on san francisco, and want to let viewers know what makes san francisco special. there are a lot of things that make san francisco special. they filmed a short segment with me and the host in the shop, it was very pleasant. the host was a true professional, because he was so natural, and could make any one feel comfortable. but i have to admit that i had a peter brady moment, where i froze on camera, they had to re-shoot it several times because of my blundering. i have such respect for people who can be so natural in very unnatural situations. so i came home late tonite, was supposed to have dinner with a few friends, but was truly so tired to be social, and opted for a quiet night at home with a bowl of soup. i turn on the tivo and see the show "we live here" san francisco has been saved. i watch it and see the my segment. its very strange to watch yourself on tv. i thought do i really look like that? its very surreal and makes you very self aware. nonetheless, as i was watching the show i thought, i am so blessed to be doing what i love.

how refreshing!

Every morning I come to work feeling fresh and open to what the day will bring. The energy that comes out of this company is incredible. Each of us moon girls has her own vibe, talents and perspective. And when we all are thrown into the mix... something unique happens... our creativity gets stronger, our intuition about people's needs is heightened, our attention to detail is refined.

The sum of our collective efforts infuses each piece we sell with something that is hard to find anywhere else. Of course, the combination of cuts and fabrics is uniquely sunhee moon. But where else can you be sure that every employee throughout the entire design, production and sales process is fulfilled by their work? How many stores have a direct positive impact on their community by creating local jobs that pay a living wage and demand creative problem solving? When customers step into a sunhee moon store, they appreciate everything that has gone into our product, our presentation and ourselves to bring such vibrant clothing to the local market.

There is something special going on here, and I hope you are able to come visit one of our stores to be a part of it.

union street store opens

2059 fillmore st. is now officially open. wow! it was a whirlwind getting everything ready, but now that we have the racks and mannequins up and the clothes hung, the store looks dazzling. to top it off we have a beautiful jewelry case displaying local artists’ creations. we are also carrying reversible tomo tie belts in many colors. people love them as they can be wrapped around the waist in a variety of ways and make great additions to many different types of outfits. i love our selection of soft corduroy pants and skirts. they come in many cool colors like orange, purple and green and are so comfortable. i just might have to buy pants and a skirt in every color! the store’s windows are right on the street, and it is great to see the city sidewalks full of fun and interesting people shopping and conversing. please come and check out the space; its in a great shopping area and is fresh and bright. we look forward to seeing you. --Susie

living

often times i am so busy juggling, i forget that life is just about living. a good friend gave me a book 10 years ago knowing my workaholic ways, titled the precious present by spenser johnson.

Imagine there is a bank that credits your account
Each morning with $86,400.
It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every "evening" deletes whatever part of the
Balance you failed to use during the day.
What would you do?
Draw out every cent, of course !!!

Each of us has such a "bank"
It's name is TIME.
Every morning,
It credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off, as lost,
Whatever of this you have failed to
Invest to good purpose.
It carries over no balance,
It allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for you.
Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day's deposits,
The loss is yours

There is no going back.
There is no drawing against the "tomorrow."
You must live in the present
on today's deposits.
Invest it so as to get
from it the utmost in
health, happiness,
and success!
The clock is running.
Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR ...
ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH ...
ask a mother who gave birth
to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK ...
ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR ..
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE ...
ask the person who missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND ...
ask the person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND ...
ask the person who won a silver medal
in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have!
And treasure it more because you
Shared it with someone special,
Special enough to spend your time.
And remember that time waits for no one.

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called
... The Present!!

summer in the city

Summer has finally arrived in San Francisco! (For the uninitiated, this never happens—summer weather here usually falls somewhere between “fog” and “wet.”) Everyone at both stores is enjoying the beautiful weather and working extra hard. We’ve gotten a ton of new product in the last few weeks (we’re all going crazy over our new summer dresses!), and it’s been fantastic to be able to show our clients all of the new patterns and fabrics. The store on Fillmore Street is doing better than ever and we feel really lucky to be in such a great space with great clientele. It’s such a nice feeling to see something that you helped to cultivate grow and do well. We’re also excited about the upcoming Fillmore Jazz Festival (July 1 & 2)! City residents, definitely come check it out—it’s always a really fun party and should bring a lot of excitement to the store for the weekend. We can’t wait to see you then! --Cambra

year of the dog

my favorite holiday besides thanksgiving is korean new years, similar to chinese new year. it brings to mind memories of the year that just past and the limitless hope of the year to come. traditionally for me, every new year begins with a family gathering. my mom usually cooks an amazing new year feast, symbolic foods that represent good luck. the idea is to start the new year on a full stomach so that you will have a full stomach throughout the year. we also bow to our parents to honor them. when i was younger, my brothers and i would bow to our parents and they would give us a lecture...say to do well in school, be good people, essentially give us advise, and to voice their expectations of us. this usually followed with an envelope with cash, sometimes it was 5 dollars, the older you were, the more money they gave you. the idea was to start the new year with money in your pocket, so that you will have money all year long. as my brothers and i are now adults, we still bow to our parents and listen to their sage advise, but now we give them an envelope of money. i love this tradition. tomorrow is the beginning day of the year of the dog. my advise is to eat well all day so you will eat well all year, and to be nice to others with kind words and actions. here is a list of foods to enjoy for good luck and a forecast of the new year.

enjoy a whole fish, to represent togetherness and abundance, and a chicken for prosperity. The chicken must be presented with a head, tail and feet to symbolize completeness. Noodles should be uncut, as they represent long life.

another one bites the dust

how does another year go by so quickly? i know that the older you get the faster things go, but this year came and went. this is probably the single most growth growing year, and it came with a lot of challenges and equal amount of blessings. i have heard this from several of my friends that this year was filled with a lot of life changes. a few friends got married, a few got divorced, and a few moved to another city for better jobs, some people don't addapt well with change. i suppose the older you get the less resilient you are to change, but to me i equate change with growth, and if you don't accept and sometimes embrace change, it will force you to. don't get me wrong i enjoy the status quo, my dad always say "no news is good news." my job is all about change, in fact changing every season, but there is a big part of what i do which doesn't like too much change, i mean fashion and trends change all the time, but there is nothing like something classic and timeless. so as we wrap another year, don't be so quick to make new changes, embrace the stillness of what already is.

so busy, so happy

i am coming to realize that the busier i am the happier i am. i don't know what it is, but activities just make me feel alive. since the second store has opened i have never been busier, but the pace has actually helped me be more resourceful with my time. I remember in berkeley i was a double major in english and art, that was a lot of reading and painting, and i loved my classes and i realize now it was because i was so busy. i had 4 hours of painting everday and i would read for a couple hours a day and still attend classes. it was hectic, but i loved it. i believe that i would rather be busy than bored, and i think that i have not been bored in my career ever. it is never the same thing, my day is never the same day, it changes everyday and i love that part of my job. it is not predictable.

1833 fillmore st #101

the address for the new store is 1833 fillmore #101 between bush and sutter. it has been bitter-sweet. i often think of life as bitter and sweet. it is always a little of both. the first store i opened on fillmore 5 years ago, my best friend lily, her husband and her 3 year old daughter isabella, helped me set up the shop. the store on 16th street, lily also helped me open that shop. the last three days i have been working day and night setting up the new space, tired and worn out and thinking, i don't think i can keep doing this, my age is catching up with me. lily would have been there for me, as she always has and will be, but she and her family moved to japan for two years. it was always so much fun to have a partner in crime, someone to share in all the misery and fun, and then have a fanatastic dinner at the end of it. but then there it was, just me, and i realized that in the end there is only just you. i am so grateful to be opening this new space and moving forward. there were more problems in opening this store than the other two stores, but in the end it was also the most rewarding, because it was so challenging.

stick-to-it-ness

a lot has happened since i returned from new york in late july. the issue of elle magazine came out in the east coast. in the article they list our phone number so i was getting many phones calls from young girls in virginia, north carolina, and vermont, all who had aspirations to be designers. i gave them the advise that i live by, which is this business is not what you think or imagine it to be. it is much harder, but also very rewarding. i tell them to try there best, but i tell them most importantly, that they need to start developing a good work ethic now while they are young. they need to cultivate a stick-to-it-ness. i feel that the saying "90% perspiration and 10% inspiration" applies to my success. those who survive this business are the persons who decide that they will work hard and put in may hours for sometimes very little results in the beginning. it is easy to be inspired when things are going well and you are doing well, but try to be inspired when things are not. that is when your hard work base helps you ride out the waves.

french75

my new favorite summer cocktail drink is french 75. the recipe is easy.

French 75 (Cognac)
1 1/2 oz cognac
1 oz lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
6 oz Champagne

Combine cognac, sugar and lemon juice in shaker. Add ice and shake till chilled. Pour into champagne flute. Pour champagne over cognac concoction. Garnish with lemon curl.

i went to a new restaurant this week named coco and the bartender made this drink for the couple sitting next to me. it looked so good, i ordered one myself. so good. light, crisp and refreshing a perfect drink for the summer. if you don't want to make it yourself go to coco in san francisco. you'll be happy it's summer.

i am totally addicted to the show "dancing with the stars." as i a little girl, i loved all musicals, i love dancing and singing and for the longest time i thought life was one big musical. i thought people really broke out in song and danced around, and splashed in the rain. when i was younger, the way i learned to speak english was through song, it was easier to remember words. i was a big fan of musicals. you name it, every elvis presley musical, every ann margret musical, every doris day muscial, i loved it all. i used to watch a lot of lawrence welk shows when i was younger too. if your singing and dancing, i am watching. the "dancing with the stars" is so great, because it makes me want to be them, dancing and spinning. don't forget to dance, because life is a musical, it's your music.

elle

a few weeks ago, susan from elle magazine calls me to tell me that she will be in town with her photographer writing a story on hitchcock movies, fashion, and san francisco. she came to the store early and the store was a mess. she was sweet and looked more like a model than a writer. she tried on a few clothes and everything looked great on her. the photographer took some pictures of her in the clothes and one of the both of us standing between a mannequin. i looked like a little girl next to this beautiful writer/model. she tells me that they are pitching the story and no guarantees if it will be received or not and i think nothing more of it. Until today when i get a call from a fact checker from elle magazine, looks like they are going to run the story, with us in it. i could hardly contain my happiness. this is so exciting. elle is a national fashion magazine. it's not an editorial, where they photograph your clothes in a fashion layout and you get credit at the back of the magazine, it's an article. how exciting! susan calls me later that day to confirm that the article will run and she asks me how long i have been in business and i tell her 10 years. wow 10 years. i am still so excited about what i do, it doesn't feel like work, it feels like breathing to me. when i first started, i used to be so stressed and nervous and as the years went on and i got more comfortable in my own skin the more i enjoyed the process of designing and making the clothes. it was never smooth sailing, there was always little fires to put out and things that needed to be changed, but it was all worth it. what a great 10 year present, to be in elle.

what a week

what a week. it's been so crazy lately. i am getting ready for a trip to hawaii, my first time ever. i am looking forward to the break, but more importantly to be inspired. i think it is important to leave your life in order to connect with your creative side. sometimes doing nothing inspires something.

sunset magazine

i just finished an interview with sunset magazine. a sweet girl, i should say lady, abby peterson, who also happens to be a customer of sunhee moon was the interviewer. as a young girl,i remember sunset magazine as a garden magazine. in fact when i lived in a place with a garden i bought sunset magazine to learn how to maintain the garden. i have fond memories of this magazine, seeing it on the coffee tables of my friends houses. when abby came for the interview she dropped off a current issue and i was so suprised at how hip and cool this magazine has become. this is a magazine that i would want a subscription too. it is an easy read, and not only about gardens, but about design, food and life. i love this magazine, it is not your mother's magazine, it is our kind of magazine. the interview comes out in june.

new york

i'ts been so crazy since i returned from new york. i had a great time there as i always do. although i thought the weather just about killed me. i am so not ever prepared for the kind of weather i am about to face when i go to new york. i was two layers shy from being warm and had to buy tons of long sleeve tees and sweaters. i even succumbed and bought a pair of boots that i know i will surely get stoned in san francisco. you see in new york, everyone wears fur, every kind of fur, these shoes i bought have sheep fur, which is a little better than the usual chinchilla you see all over the city, sheep fur is what is weaved as sweaters etc, so i don't feel guilty, since these sheeps do not need to die for fashion only sheared, but to the untrained s.f. eye it may appear as if some small creature was blind sighted. this trip was especially special because my best friend lily was able to accompany me in what was our last hurrah before she and her famly move to japan for a couple of years. so this was so special because, when i would go to ny back in the day, it was with her as we were showcasing our new collection for the buyers. new york in winter is so beautiful with the snow and crisp air. we were fortunate to see the christo gates in central park, it was up for 16 days, 2 days more than his usual exhibits, and experienced a little of art history. i was an art major and took extensive art history classes at berkeley and loved it, and to be there during such a momentuous occasion, where i know that it will be covered in furture art history classes, was great. http://www.christojeanneclaude.net/tg.html

red eye

i am leaving on the red eye to new york tonite. i get in at 6 am take a cab into manhattan and i have one day of shopping and walking the city. the next days ahead will be non-stop, going from show to show and seeing the underlining trends for the upcoming seasons. though i feel a little separated from the trends of what others are doing, since my stuff is more classic in cut and design, i get a certain amount of thrill in seeing if some trends sink or swim. one trend from last year, which i think is still strong this year is the metallics, you will see it everywhere. you will see it in different hues, while last year it was in gold and silver, this year, you will see it in platinum, bronze and pewter. i thinks flats will be huge for spring, i happen to love flats, basic or sequined, it is my all time favorite must-haves, next to the driving shoes.

happy new year!

in chinese astrology, the year 2005 will be the year of the green rooster. i happen to be born on the year of the rooster. here is an article i found online, you may find it interesting to read.

The year of the Green Rooster: tips for a successful celebration
12/30/2004 15:20
According to the Eastern Zodiac the upcoming year of 2005 will be the year of the Rooster; the year of Green Wooden Rooster to be exact.
Everyone is probably aware of the fact that green is the color of hope and spring. So in order to attract the love of your life and loads of money in the year to come, one must wear something green, advises astrologer Valery Ledovsky.
Green is also the color of youth. In China, this color is regarded as the color of the young generation. The following year will be exceptionally good for the application of scientific achievements to production. The year 2005 will also be a great period for creative works; great time for the emergence of new talents.
As far as its substance [i.e. wood] is concerned, it symbolizes family. Family values will be essential; they will constitute an integral part of everyone"s life in the year to come, notes the astrologer. Practicality, business attitude and diligence will be valued the most next year. Those who pay attention to even the slightest details will achieve remarkable heights in the upcoming year.
Rooster is a very fertile bird. Therefore, the upcoming year 2005 prophesizes to be just as such. You can expect a pleasant addition to your household. In case you are still single, this will be the best time to find the love of your life and form a family of your own, writes Valery Ledovsky. There will be an abundance of romantic dates in the upcoming year of the Rooster.
Roosters are also very peaceful birds. They guard their owners. In fact, it is a common misconception that roosters are cocky. They are only cocky for a reason.
Those born in the year of the rooster tend to be very reliable; they make their relatives and/or loved ones feel at ease when they are with them. Despite their powerful sex drive, Roosters are good family men and women.
Roosters are also communal birds. That is why 2005 promises to be a lucky one for joint ventures, notes the astrologer. He suggests signing as many business contracts as possible and form new partnerships in the upcoming year. Your circle of friends will definitely expand next year. However, no matter the business, family interests should always come first!
What should one wear/cook for the New Year?Roosters are not extremely picky when it comes to food. Simple grain will do. The astrologer suggests cooking beans and oats among other dishes as well as sprinkling the table with some seeds.
Try to refrain from consuming meat on this occasion. It is absolutely forbidden to eat chicken or turkey for New Year"s. Otherwise, you will insult the Rooster. Overall, the food should be relatively light.
As for the outfit, it should definitely be green! One can also dress in rainbow colors, to imitate Rooster"s colorful tale. Fabric must be 100% natural. Feel free to play with your hairstyle.
It is recommended to celebrate New Year's with family, relatives and close friends. You will offend the Rooster if you chose to abandon the family comfort and celebrate the holiday at some night club. It would also be better to celebrate the holiday in your home country. Also, do not forget to raise several toasts for family, parents and children. And the last advice: you should say "cock-a-doodle-doo" several times for luck.
Valery Ledovsky also notes that the official year of the Rooster will begin only on February 9th, 2005 at 1:30 am MSK. Remember this date and don't forget to raise a toast and cheer once more!

poncho poncho poncho

i love that word, poncho, and taco, and paco, i really love anything that ends in a vowel, it's so much fun to say! our poncho's are finally here, this is a gorgeous 55% cashmere and 45% silk, it is decadent and luxurious, the best part is that it fits so nicely, it isn't oversize and droppy. it just looks nice and neat on the body. we produced them in 6 colors, oxblood red, truffle, cocoa, black and winter white, and at $138.00, it's a bargain for the cashmere quality. i found so many poncho's with no cashmere costing more than that and since we manufacture and wholesale we are able to offer these at a great price.

my favorite tv show

my favorite tv show right now, is "bands reunited" on vh1. i am completely addicted. i've tivoed 4 episode so far and my favorite was the haircut 100 and the most disappointing was the abc reunion. i love abc and would have loved to seen the original group all together. i am waiting breathlessly for a wham! reunion, but i don't think it'll happen since george michaels is a successful solo singer. the first concert i ever saw was general public, i think i was 16 years old, the second one was in canada and i saw morrissey. i loved morrissey. the trend now in clothing is 80's too. the preppy look will be huge for fall, if it isn't starting with the resurgence of izod shirts. although what is up with the le tigre shirts, i remember back in the day, that was the poor man's izod, now it's just as expensize as an alligator shirt. music, fashion are closely interrelated and you can see why they move through the times together. during the nineties. it was all about indie rock and grunge. that is so reminiscient of the 60's with rock and the hippie era. i was joking with a friend of mine about how i had all these doc martin's from the 80's (embarassing that i can still fit into a lot of my old things and i never let them go)and how i was going to sell them at crossroads, because they were slightly worn. she suggested that i put them up on ebay that i could fetch more money for them, since the 80's are back!

our shop online is up

we are finally up. our "shop online" portion of our web is up and running. it took almost 7 months, many many revisions and the tireless efforts of our wonderful and brilliant web designer todd neumarker, and the photographic expertise of our supreme photographer andrew paynter. we launched a soft open last monday and we have since recieved three online orders, without any announcements. i was pleasantly surprised. i didn't think anyone would be on the site let alone order something, which confirms that stores online are open 24 hours. in celebration of the opening of our shop online website, we are offering free shipping for the month of august! so take advantage of getting something sunhee moon without paying for freight. i am always looking for input and advise on how the site look etc, so if you have any input, be sure to email them my way!

shopping and more shopping

i just got back from los angeles this evening. i was there on a buying trip and a week before that i was in new york for a buying trip. there is just so much product out there. the most prevalent trend that i saw was the love for metallics. it is all about metallic bags, shoes and accessories! i even succumbed to the metallics craze and bought michael kors grand prixe birkenstock. i have worn it literally everyday and a stranger always makes a comment about these shoes! they are fabulous! i know that if things are big in new york now, it will hit in san francisco in about 6 months. which makes metallics perfect for spring. if you are afraid of metallics, then do the gold earrings or the gold barettes. you can still be a part of the trend and yet not be so obvious about it. another strong trend is indian inspired tops, skirt and thongs. that was huge in new york, i saw that on atleast one beautiful girl in new york. the maxine sashes that we make for our store and for others, are starting to grow in popularity. the belt sash thing i think we will strong into fall. it is a great accessory. another accessory i see growing in populartiy will be brooches and pins, that you wear on the lapel of your favorite cropped fall jacket or pinned to your poncho or even a scarf. get out those vintage pins! anything vintage will also be huge for fall. vintage inspired dressed, pencil skirt, and tweed and velvet jackets. that is my take on what is to come! have fun with trend and fashion, clothes is meant to express not to define!

izzy super-sta

i don't know if some saw the little article about izzy the shop mascot, and my precious dog in the sf chronicle. it was a very cute article about the neighborhood that i live near. well the funny thing is that a reporter from the new york times came into the store looking to write about san francisco. after our conversation, he asks if he could send a photographer to the store to take pictures for his story. a week later, the photographers come and they fall in love with izzy and the entire photo shoot revolves around izzy the super model. i tell my friend mulan the story that night over dinner and she laughs and says, "izzy will bring you popularity not your clothing line". and i thought how funny and how true.

i wish i had....

i wish i had more time to make entries in the blog. i have been so overwhelmed by the new collection and the store that i have literally haven't had a moment to input all that i am going through. i consider this blog a diary of sorts , a means to express and share all that it's happenings. i hate to say time flies by, but when you are busy it really does. i have gone through so many life changes recently, and there are times that i wish i was 25 years old again, in energy and not in experience. i am quite happy with my current age, and grateful that success was slow as molasses so that i can enjoy all it's sweetness. the new collection is by far one of my best. there are some amazing classic pieces that will be a staple in any girls wardrobe.

changes

it has been three very busy weeks since our store opening. i cannot tell you all the changes the store has undergone. firstly, i have since hired three new girls, who are so wonderful and make my job at the shop so much easier. there was a rough patch there, when debbie had just left for her new career and the store was still transitioning into the new space. being in this space has completely inspired me to move forward and expand. we get comfortable in our lives, and the fillmore space was a comfortable, predictable location, and 16th street is so dynamic and ever changing, that it inspires me to make new things for our customers. the best new accessory that we just launched is the maxine sash. this sash can be used for so many things, a belt, headband, or a scarf, made in silk charmeuse in a multitude of patterns and solids. we are about to launch our storefront on the web, and you will soon be able to get the same things in our store through our website. we are also bringing new products from other designers, to supplement our line, and to offer our customers a wider variety of choices. isn't it interesting that one action can launch a series of changes. embrace all the changes in your life, you never know where it will lead you.

we are in!

we are in the new space. it is everything and more than i had expected, firstly, i cannot tell you how many people from the neighborhood have welcomed us and expressed their happiness that we were there. this lifted my heart and confirmed that this was the best place for us to be. several of the custsomers came in after seeing our picture in the current bay guardian, listing the super list. we were also mentioned in paper city newspaper. we are so thankful to the contractors who helped build out the space to reach our open-date deadline: don, archie and crew. you're the best. the store is so much bigger, i haven't quite reached a flow for the space. when i look at the storefront, it reminds me of a boutique on wooster street in new york.the energy is so different from the old space, it is almost night and day, the old fillmore address is in a quiet residential nieghborhood, while 16th street, is more frenetic and exciting. there are so many dogs in this neighborhood, i am seriously thinking about making a izhee's line of dog clothes. debbie and i have sampled a few of the eatery's on that street and we have been to pakwan twice in a row for their delectable chicken masala wrapped in naan. it is like an indian burrito...so good, if you haven't been there i highly reccommend it.

new space

what can i say about the new space other than it has completely exceeded my expectations. it is a beautiful white modern space with three dressing rooms, that is right, no more waiting for a shared dressing room. i was there this entire weekend helping the electrician put up our track light, you would think it was a simple task, far from it, we were there all day and most of the night saturday and sunday. by the end of it i was exhauted and slap happy. yesterday i put up the address on the door, a true mark that we are in our new space. i remember when i first opened the store on fillmore, my best friend lily helped me all day and night for two days and we opened the shop on saturday and my first customer was a guy who bought his girlfriend a dress and paid me in cash. of course to this day i still have the dollar bill that he gave me, and taped it to the side of my drawer as a reminder of that first opening day. i know that this sounds a little funny but to me this is like giving birth to a new adventure. i know that things will be so different in this new space, that is proven by all the colorful characters on that street.

counting down

it is so stressful anticipating the big move. i never feel like i have anything under control. the one smart advise we got from our mover was to shrink wrap everything. so today i went and got rolls and rolls of commercial plastic wrap, so that we can just keep everything on the hangers and in their drawers and wrap it tight. what a great idea, to imagine how i moved before packing and wrapping everything in boxes, when i could of just saran wrapped everything. now that is working smarter not harder. i went and visited our new space and it looks so great, the floors need to be painted, but once that is done, we are getting the thumbs up to move in. we have one more week at this location on fillmore. we'll see you in the mission.

bring on the pastries!!!

sunhee and i were down on 16th street chatting with the fabulous contractors who are working so hard to make the new space nice for us and i was blown away by what a lively street 16th is during the day.

being somewhat of a night owl i am very familiar with 16th street in the evening, but during the day it's a completly different scene. there is so much hustle and bustle, all kinds of people with dogs and kids and great food and coffee and shopping... i can't wait to be a part of such a colorful street!

i was thinking i may even start taking the train so i can walk through delores park and pet dogs on my way to work and i can already picture myself relaxing and having a healthy breakfast of eclairs and coffee at tartine in the morning before coming into the shop :)

for now though we're concentrating on getting the spring line into the shop, i've tried on the samples of a couple of the new skirts and i love them! i was so bummed when i had take them off and put my jeans back on! we'll keep you posted on new arrivals, come in and see us soon!

16th street

the address for the new shop is 3167 16th street. the build out for the space is going well and we hope to be in the space earlier than the projected april 1st move in date. i was at the shop the other day and was so happy and excited that we are moving to the mission. i have personally lived in the mission for 12 years, and although it has changed a lot, i feel like it has all been for the better. it is a neighborhood for so many people of different ages, occupations, and cultures, and i know that will not change. for me, by putting our store on 16th street is my way of investing in a neighborhood that i love. it would have been easy to open a shop on one of the many "shopping streets" in san francisco, but the idea of being where it all happened years ago, it just seemed right for me. plus i cannot tell you how great it will be to be around such amazing food!

Hooray for us!

Today was beautiful, even if threatening rain and sundry gloominess. Thanks to all of you who came into today to make life in the store bright! IF you haven't already started thinking of spring, now's the time to do so! We have many adorable skirts that you have to try on. Pleats, buttons, darts, in cotton sateen, corduroy, and cross-hatched weaves-- for the femmes out there, we have several cute floral prints. With the skyrocketing number of weddings going on at city hall these days, all you girls definitely need something new to wear! ;)

hurah for flip-flops!

today is so beautiful! i admit to being one of the hopeful girls attempting to bust out the flip-flops a couple months too early that sunhee mentioned in her blog entry last week. however today i emerged from my house triumphantly sportting capri jeans and my favorite hot pink flip-flops (and a warm turtleneck sweater...) and i am happy to report that my toes are happy as can be.

perhaps my impatience with winter has something to do with sunhee and i spending so much time thinking about new spring colors and styles as we get the new line rolling. my head is filled with thoughs of picnics in the park, lazy sundays playing bocce ball at stinson beach, and the most important spring/summer activity of all... bar-b-ques!!!

i'm such a shopaholic that all these activities automaticly induce thougts like "humm...what would be the perfect outfit for a picnic at the park? black ballett flats for sure... and the perfect white blouse and capri jeans. maybe a hat? a really great sun hat...)

we should be getting some new product in soon, both clothes and accessories, such as new hobo purses, ultra-cute leather cuff bracelets, and silk skinny scarves in great colors.

izzy (our tiny white powder-puff guard dog) is keeping things here at the shop nice and safe and always super fun so stop in soon for some quick retail therapy or just to chat!

16th street

we just signed the lease on our new space on 16th street. we are anticipating to move in april 1st, since we have to give our current space 60 days notice. there is a possibility that we may move in mid march and operate both stores for a few weeks to transition into the new space, we will keep you posted on our move. funny how the new year brought so much change. i have always said that life reveals your next step and takes you where you need to go. so ladies "let life take you where it takes you and don't push too much." a good advise my father once told me when i was 25 and starting the sunhee moon line. nine years later, and with that advise in mind, i learned a very important lesson that things are not always under your control, so you let go of it and you move on to something that will work, and there in lies life taking you where you need to go.

The Targeted Change

If any of you are like me, you're looking for a sea change in the way your life is going...something monumental but subtle at the same time. It just turned February today, and once again i find myself taking stock of things as I dust the new jewelry cases in the shop. Rearranging the jewels and sequined purses and embroidered bags, I am filled with, strangely, much hope for this year. There's something about cleaning, polishing, rearranging material things that triggers the urge to, well, set things straight. For me personally, I know it will be a year of setting many things straight that went awry in the last couple of years. Who do any of us have to thank for this so very subtle and yet illuminating change of heart? The love of friends and family, and the very true love coming from within one's self. As Walt Whitman wrote

One's-self I sing, a simple separate person,
Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-Masse.
Of physiology from top to toe I sing,
Not physiognomy alone nor brain alone is worthy for the Muse, I say
the Form complete is worthier far,
The Female equally with the Male I sing.

There's more to the poem, but i like it ending there just so :) Anyway, this is a month for targeted change. This goes for the energy you expend on yourself and others-- fight the chosen battle and don't lose the war. So, don't be overwhelmed with the prospect of "making over" your "tired" wardrobe. Take it easy! Just buy one or two things that symbolize the change you feel. A pair of simple earrings hanging fine silver chain and chalcedony, or a fitted shirt that says hello to you in the morning when you rummage through your closet.

If you're like me, adding things to your accoutrement of personality (that is, your *look,* the *joie de vivre* that is that simple separate you that you can sing) is a fun, guilt-free, and satisfying way to spend a rainy Sunday, for instance, while others are filling their beer bellies and chuffing in front of the StuporBowl! And why shouldn't you be nice to yourself and try on something here that feels good? Spring a-line skirts in pretty patterns are beckoning on the racks. Get some sparkly beaded hair elastics to go with the skirt. Grab a sheer silk fuschia scarf to frame your bright and hopeful face. Find some cowboy boots. Dare to lilt your voice like Patsy Cline on Blue Moon of Kentucky! (Don't just dare, then, do it.)

Or, if you're not feeling spring chicken-y, and you're still a little agog from the chill, try on the superlight and fine wool pieces we have. You can't have too much of this fabric, in the zip-up hoodies, the kangaroo pocket hoodie, the cowl necks, the demure but charming Tara top with its sweet tie at the neck.

Well, I know some of you were hidden away today for football and because of the fine and trickly rain, but come by come by! We love to see you!

today feels like spring

it is a saturday and the sun is out, it looks like spring, but still feels like early fall. people are bravely letting their pasty and tired feet out for some sun. i saw about three girls attempting to bring out their flip flops a month early. you know who you girls are...the same girls that had to go home and put on some socks, because it was still way to cold for that. we are very excited about spring, because we have so many skirts, clam diggers and short shorts in yummy colors that will go great with a pair of flip flops. these spring pieces is expected to come in the store in early march.

getting ready for spring

now that we have all recovered from the holiday craziness, it's time to kick back, have some hot chocolate, and relax. it's been quiet in the neighborhood, i think everyone is enjoying some well deserved quiet time.

believe it or not, spring is just around the corner and sunhee is working hard on the new collection. we're going in a fun and ultra-feminine direction for the upcoming season with beautiful new fabrics like silk and eyelet. we also have some fabulous new purses and jewelry coming in that we are very excited about.

don't forget to bring in your moonbucks, january will be over before you know it!

time to cash in those moonbucks!

happy new year everyone! i hope 2004 is treating you all well. i have a very good feeling about this year and others seem to have the same feeling. maybe if enough of us think positively we can insure that this year will be good times.

one way to make sure you start this year out on the right foot is to come and cash in you moonbucks! what could be better than shopping and saving tons of $ at the same time?!

even though it has been freezing here lately the sun has managed to make an appearence today. i had to step outside and see if i could absorb some natural heat. it took a few minutes, but there's nothing like the feel of warm winter sun. while i was enjoying the weather a lovely man stopped by to beg sunhee to design a men's line. he said it is impossible to find reasonably priced classic yet unique styles for men, especially ones by young and fabulous designers. he was very convincing and has volunteered to be the first sunhee moon boy model. he definitly has the look ;)

hope you have a great week! think happy thoughts!

champagne + bacon + shopping = good times!

i am now officially a pro at popping champagne corks without injuring myself or others, truely a valuable life skill. what a fun party! champagne, sunhee's bacon wrapped lil' smokies, and fabulous people...what a way to kick off the holidays! hello once again to all of you that made it to our party, it was so nice to have so many of sunhee's friends/customers in the store all shopping and drinking together. it was really satasfying to see all the girls hanging out in the dressing area, holding each other's glasses while they tried things on, swapping shirts and skirts to try on, giving each other shopping advise... it was champagne fueled shopping and customer bonding. such fun to be a part of!

i also finally got to meet my elusive co-workers corii and helen, both super nice girls. helen was radient in a delicate pink angora sweater (love it!) and corii and i bonded over the white stripes (yeah put it on, they rock!!) i'm happy to be in such lovely company here with the other sunhee moon girls.

on a different but equally positive note, keep an eye out for sunhee in the dec.11th issue of asian week. we have been selected as "best botique" in their annual best of the bay survey! congratulations sunhee!

enjoy the holidays, enjoy your friends and family, and remember to take a little time out for yourself to relax and stay sane!

    what a party!

it was really great to see all of you, and i do have to say the appetizer that was the hit of the party was the dish my good friend helen brought, blended mushroom and sausages encased in a delicate filo. i love having the store parties, they are so much fun, and for those that missed this one, we will have another one in a few months hopefully in a new space. just as corii said, we are having this promotion until the end of december, so come in get your moonbucks. this promo is by far the best savings than all the other promotions. on a final note, we are taking polls on two places to move the shop. one is 16th street, between guerrero and valencia, and the other is on haight street next door to happy trails. let us know which one you think we should take. send replys to

    Sunhee's Lil' Smokies

Thanks to all of you for coming out on Friday to our holiday party! It was quite a swirl of activity, what with girls trying on the latest designs that Sunhee has in the store, tipping back clear glasses of bubbly, and snacking on what all of us will agree must make a return *next* year-- sunhee's fantastic lil' smokies! We're talking pork-on-pork action with that scrumptious brown-sugar-honey taste that tempted even our Jewish and Muslim friends! The energy was wonderful, the food delectable, the champagne and prosecco flowed like the conversation-- sparkly and effortlessly! We hope you all got to meet and chat with me, Debbie, and Sunhee about the clothes, accessories, and other beautiful things that are making the store a pleasure to work and shop in. Our lovely Helen dropped by too to say hello and model a few things for us! Pahty pictures to go up soon!

If you missed our holiday get-together, please stop by for the remainder of this month to make sure you get in on our December moonbucks promotion! One great idea: Buy a gift certificate for that special someone of at least $100, get a moonbuck that you can use in January for $20 off any purchase $50.00 or more. That's an amazing deal for you and the lucky recipient of a sunheemoon gift certificate!

    Happy Holidays to everyone!

    here comes the rain again...

thanksgiving has come and gone leaving in its wake real winter weather. it's pouring down outside, i'm here in the shop staying warm, tidying up, and getting ready for the week. it finally feels like the holidays are in full swing, i think it's the combination of the cold wet weather and the avalanche of christmas imagery that is unleashed after thanksgiving. bring on the shopping, the food, the friends, and the baked goods!

    eight years in business

i love the holiday's. my favorite is thanksgiving. it is the one holiday where everyone gets together to eat, pause and reflect on all the blessings we have. the year flew by again, and i can't believe that it will be 2004 in a couple of months. this time of the year also reminds me of when the line came to be. in my mind, body and spirit, i still feel like that 25 year old girl who had no idea where my future would take me. i started my clothing line in october 1995, with only determination and pure adrenaline. it is amazing to think how far i have come year after year, when i saw a lot of my contemporaries close shop and go into another line of business. i cannot say it was easy, but i can say that it was and is bitter sweet. like life i guess, difficult moments are sometimes bitter and great moments are sweet, but life isn't one without the other.

    i'm so lucky!

i get a call from my friend chiara last night that i'm in the december lucky issue. so of course i was excited to get my hands on the magazine to see what it looks like. i go to five different locations and they all have the old months issue, until i finally find it in safeway. as i am standing in the check-out lane, i am perusing the magazine, clumsily flipping through the pages, inserts are flying all over the place and i am making a spectacle of myself. then a man who is buying a 40 ouncer plops his beer on the conveyor belt and peers over my shoulder. he looks right at me and says "is that you? that's not a good picture, you are prettier in real life." i laughed and thought this is my lucky day, i am in a popular nationwide magazine and i got a compliment from a drunk man.

    the new girl

hello everyone, this is debbie, the newest girl here at sunhee moon! i'm having a great time working with sunhee and learning the ropes. it's so fun getting to know both the customers and the clothes. my very first purchase, the moss green victoria velvet blazer, has become my favorite jacket ever, i wear it almost everyday. i look foreward to meeting everyone and becoming part of the whole sunhee moon family!

    what's your colour?

i am such a sucker for things that claim to bring you insight to your personality. i get them in my mailbox once in a while, and though i delete most things, i can never delete those. i guess there is a part of me that always wants to be suprised by my personality. take this test if you are curious... Rosie tops!

My favorite in the store right now is the Rosie cowlneck top in a delicious flowery-patterned italian knit of cotton and spandex that feels wonderful next to your skin. Pair this top, which comes in black with white flowers, rust with peach flowers, and chocolate with blush flowers, with our perennial favorite Clark pant. Throw on a velvet Victoria jacket and you'll feel like Fall is your best friend :)

Come and check out our fun accessories too! Sunhee got in some beautiful Chan Luu wallets in girlish plaids and embroidered sweet little cherry blossoms. Colorful and sparkly hair accessories for the holiday season, and lots of great little gifts for the special friends in your life.

see you in the shop soon!

    missy skirts

these missy skirts are going fast. i have never in the history of having the shop has one style done so well. we are virtually out of the brown corduroy in the missy and the other colors are going fast. the cut on these skirts really makes everyone look so great. this is by far the most flattering skirt, and for those girls who are not afraid to wear this "season's must have" which is the mini. saturday is usually a busy day at the shop. often times i don't even have time to eat lunch so i have to come prepared with snacks and all. for the customers, there is often a wait for the small dressing room. today was no different at any given time, as soon as one girl left with her bag of fall goodies, another girl was wanting to go into the dressing room, it was like a revolving door today and the big hit was the missy skirt and our new rosie cowls in italian knit.

    image gallery

our web designer just posted in "image gallery" pictures from a photo shoot that we did a month ago. this is our second photo shoot, and i do believe that the more we do these the easier it gets. setting something like this up takes tons of preparation. andrew paynter, our photographer, scouted out the locations days before. when he took me to see the places, we took test polaroids and documented the time so that we knew how the sun would look at that specific time. then we assembled outfits for each location and took polaroids of those. the day of our shoot, the weather was beautiful, couldn't have been better, but by the end of the day, the sf wind kicked in and what looked like 75 degrees, was more like 60 degrees. sarah our beautiful model, who is really a full time teacher, was a great sport and such a professional, despite the chill. she has really become the face for the clothes. to me, she embodies what the modern day women should be, with all her vitality and grace.

    return from fabric show

i just got back from the fabric show and it actually looked very promising that the coming season will be exciting. i have to say that i saw a lot of interesting fabrics and noticed a new direction with fabric companies allowing smaller minimums. this is exciting because in recent past, the fabric companies didn't care about the smaller designers. who couldn't afford the high minimums. it was tough, you were at the mercy of the fabric companies. i think they realized gone are the days where even the big companies buy so much, so they smartened up and now are targeting the smaller designers. good thing for me, and for you. this means a lot more selection in fine fabrics from italy, japan, and locally in the us.

    goodbye!

hi everyone! i'm sad to say that i'll no longer be working here at sunhee moon. i just wanted to thank all the sunhee moon girls (and guys :) for the good times, and support, i'm going to miss being at the store so much! it was nice to be the first to preview all the latest styles and colors of the season. sunhee's creative designs and having the opportunity to see the clothing on different girls made working enjoyable, and fun. by the way, if you haven't been in the store for awhile, you better go check it out...theres some CUTE fall stuff you wouldn't want to miss! bye-bye, and take care!

    The Cutest Handbag

Yes, we must have THE cutest handbag in the store. We have lots of cute handbags but this one that Sunhee found hiding amidst more mediocre bags is truly a winner. It's a cute litte oblong number with long over-the-shoulder loop handles, and comes in suede orange, tan (we sold out of the black!) and also a nice serious blue that seriously pops when you match it up with clothing in the red/orange team of things. It's got a nice silver buckle clasp, and is like the third little bear's dream-- it's JUST RIGHT. We have in some cool new wool knit vests in some seriously 80's and colors. Yes Ladies, the 80's are back, with all the sweet-tart colors and carefree me-ism that you may have exulted in during that decade. (Still, we try to put a twist on the Argyle vest by pairing it with Sunhee's lovely Angie blouse. Just come see the store front.) Also, some new navy wool boucle tops with leather ties (reminds me of the topsiders the boys I had crushes on in sixth grade used to wear)-- adorable. Come try on Peggy Li's jewelry-- simple, playful, gem-focused, and enhancing!

    Catch you next Sunday...
